Syros - The duches of Cyclades
This is the island where Greek tradition and western influence come to a harmonious marriage. Ermoúpoli (meaning “the city of Hermes”) is the island’s capital town and has been the first important trade and industrial centre of the country in the 19th century. Evidence of this glorious past can be seen on public buildings (the City Hall, the Customs Office, “Apollo” theatre), on the neoclassical houses and at the beautiful squares. Due to its economic activity, Ermoúpoli has been called “Manchester of Greece” and the history of its years of blossom is exhibited in the Industrial Museum.
Kini - A magnificent village in Syros
Kini is a cute coastal tourist resort, very popular, surrounding the homonymous sandy beach. It is situated at a distance of some 9 kilometers western to Hermoupolis and counts some 450 permanent residents, in their majority occupied in tourism. The settlement has a small port for small tourist, fishing and excursion boats and is the departure point for the excursion boats that get the visitors to nice beaches, accessible only from the sea. There are many alternatives for accommodation, within a nice landscape and very good facilities for tourists. Kini is also famous for the breathtaking sunset, ideal for taking photos.
